One protein source that many people tend to choose as part of their diet, especially as the summer months draw near are beef burgers. While preparing the burger at home does give you more control over the nutritional content then if you were to have it prepared at a Fast Food location or in a restaurant, you have to be careful because it still is not your leanest source of protein for a healthy diet.
Once in a while a beef burger can definitely be added to the menu but if you’re having this on a weekly or twice weekly basis, you may want to rethink that.
Let’s take a closer look at the nutritional value of beef burgers.
Major Nutrients Found In A Beef Patty
Unless you’re actually preparing the beef patty on your own made with very lean ground beef and an egg white, you’re going to be looking at a higher overall fat content like that illustrated in the chart above. While the beef patty does of course provide a good dose of protein, you’re also taking in quite a hefty amount of fat with it.
The calorie intake, when you add that to the bun you choose to eat it with and any cheese you may put on, will definitely make for a higher calorie selection.
Beef patties will still contain some iron though due to the beef, so that is one positive thing about choosing this for your lunch or dinner meal.
Storing/Selecting
When selecting beef patties make sure that you do take the time to assess a few of the different brands that are out there for the nutritional information they contain. The calorie, fat, and protein content will vary depending on the brand that you purchase so one of the best ways to boost the nutritional value is to choose the right brand.
Once you’ve selected your beef patties, make sure that you store them in the freezer until right before you use them on the grill (or frying pan).
Eat It With:
Beef patties are most often served with a bun and a side dish of some sort such as a salad, cob of corn, or pasta salad, however if you’re on a low carb diet you may choose to just have the patty on a bed of lettuce instead.
